About Armenia
Welcome to Armenia! Armenia is one of the most ancient lands in the world. According to the Bible, the earthly paradise Garden of Eden was in the valley of the Tigris, Euphrates, Pishon and Gihon rivers. The second life of the humanity has also started from Armenia: Noah’s Ark landed on the mountains of Ararat which became the birthplace of nations. This is why our organisation is named ARM NOY TOUR.
Armenia is located in the South Caucasus. It borders Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey. The total area of the Republic of Armenia along with Artsakh is 42000 km2. Contemporary Armenia is only one-tenth of its historical lands. The larger Western Armenia is still under Turkish rule because of the Armenian Genocide of 1890-1923.
Armenia was the first Christian nation of the world: it had adopted Christianity in 301. Countless churches, monasteries, cross-stones (khachkars), castles and other fortifications have been built in Armenia throughout centuries. Before adopting Christianity, Armenians were pagans: they believed in many gods and goddesses and they had a rich culture. Unfortunately, only a few treasures of this culture have survived to our days. Armenia is an open-air museum under the skies. An entire life is needed to discover Armenian cultural treasures. Numerous manuscripts have been created in Armenia; many of them are preserved in Matenadaran Museum of ancient manuscripts.
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. It was founded by King Argishti I of Ararat/Urartu Kingdom in 782 B.C.. Being the most ancient capital in the world, now Yerevan is still a modern-style city with a vivid and colourful cultural life.
Armenia is a mountainous country, so the climate differs in valleys and mountains. Summer is mostly hot and dry, and the winter is short and not very rigid.
Armenia’s population is about three million. Ethnic Armenians compose 98% of the population. Ethnic minorities include Yezidis, Kurds, Molokans, Assyrians, Jews, Greeks, Russians, etc..
Armenian is the official language of Armenia. It belongs to the Indo-European languages’ family. Most Armenians speak Russian, English and other languages.
