Syunik  is the southernmost province of Armenia. It is bordered by the Vayots Dzor Province from the north, Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic exclave from the west, Nagorno-Karabakh Republicfrom the east, and Iran from the south. Sevan is considered to be one of the three ancient and biggest lakes (Vana and Urmia) of the Armenian Kingdom.
